His mom glanced to Dustin first. "This is a first. How long have

you two known each other?"

"She took over Martha's old job."

"You and he went on a long bike ride, ended up at Emerson Lake,

and went for a dip."

"That's me. Does Colby stop by here often?"

"When he can. He's like a member of the family."

That surprised her. She looked over at Dustin to see if he was

hiding anything. He lifted her chin with his finger. "See? Mom knows about his past, and she's good."

"Oh." Now she felt small for being so petty.

"I promised Tracey I'd take her riding."

"Well, have a good time. It's such a beautiful day."

Dustin must have been really excited to show her around because

they practically ran out. When they got close to the barn, instead of going in through the doors, he pulled her to the far side of the barn, out of view from the house.

"I am so sorry. My mom isn't usually so outspoken."

"It's okay." It was better that his family knew that she and Colby

were attracted to each other.

With her back to the barn, he kissed her. There was nothing

tentative about it. Deciding that she wanted him, she wrapped her
